My church group/bee

Today we worked on more donation quilts. We have several string quilts in progress (one pictured here), lots of baby rag quilts, more Home of the Brave quilts, pillowcases and on and on. We really get a lot done and THANK HEAVENS for our two longarmers who do so much for us!! If it weren't for them....I don't EVEN want to think about it!!

Several months ago, I was watching an old episode of Simply Quilts and saw this...

and thought to myself "hey, that'd be a good way to use up some stash!". So I began digging through my fabric, pulling out stuff I wasn't real crazy about and started cutting! My purpose from the beginning was to make a donation quilt so I think this'll work! It's going to the local battered women's shelter. Two of my goals this year were to reduce the stash at least a LITTLE (that does require not buying anymore fabric and I've not been successful there!!) and to get a couple of donation quilts done for the shelter. A gal GRACIOUSLY longarms our donation quilts gratis so that definitely makes my work easier! I really appreciate her hard work.

After the Thurs. meeting, I brought home enough blocks to put together in another HOB top. So yesterday afternoon, I seized the opportunity and 'got r dun'. I absolutely LOVE these quilts--the 'antiquey' look they have, their purpose (going to families of soldiers who've made the ultimate sacrifice as a small remembrance and thanks) and the ease of making them. For anyone who's never heard of the project and wanting more information, check it out here...

After working with the group yesterday, I was 'inspired' to come home and get busy today. I cut a bunch of blocks for the Home of the Brave quilts (our primary focus) as well as 3 or 4 sets of coordinated sashing and cornerstones for same. I have enough blocks here to put another HOB quilt together (this will make the 6th or 7th by our little group!) and I'll work on putting those together tomorrow. I'll post a picture next week of the ones we've completed but not yet sent to the TX coordinator for Home of the Brave.

I'm also working on my next 'list of five' UFO's. I was successful completing the first five so hopefully will do as well with the next five. I've taken two of those quilts to the longarmer (including the ugly fabric challenge quilt) and hope to get a couple more to her before too long!!
