little projects

Just a couple of little projects today sandwiched in between working on a larger project today...

I found this cute little kleenex cover over at Barb and Mary's blog except I didn't box my corners like they did.  Will hafta try that on the next one cause I actually think it gives a neater look to the finished product.  May have to cut some little kits as quickie projects for the church quilt group (JoAnne, don't get ahead of me here!  LOL).

And our guild has several organizations that we work with including breast cancer patients.  We've made a TON of these heart-shaped pillows and they've all been used up so we've been asked for more.  I've only cut out 4 at this point and have 3 sewn..will do the fourth one and need to go buy stuffing but I'll definitely be making more.  This is a GREAT stashbuster.  Just dig in and find some of that 'what was I thinking' fabric and voila!  Heart pillows!!  YAY!

It's been too many days since my last BAD!  I've been busy as always and letting the blog slide.  One project I've been trying to wrap up and get to the longarmer's before I leave for Houston--NEXT WEDNESDAY!!  YIKES!!  Also need to gather all my 'stuff' for the 3 classes I'm taking.  Will show that, or one of em anyway, in the next day or two.  In the meantime, I've started the first of many projects I want to make from the "Tis the Season" book.  I LOVE this book.  Here's my start..only the tree trunks and garland/vine thingy are actually stitched down.  The rest is only fused and needs to be stitched.  After the stitching, the rest of the quilt is 'gravy'!!

And this is my first completed block from Jan Patek's newest BOM (but the name escapes me at the moment).  I'm receiving the blocks from Homestead Hearth.

From yesterday's workshop--

The teacher's examples are first, then a close-up of her pear.  The next two are just class photos showing what an attentive bunch we were and then her red apple and MY green apple (not totally complete but almost there).  I'm kinda proud of it and will finish it up and do a pear to go along with the apple.

from Tue. night guild

Now I'm gonna share some photos from show and tell at guild last night.  As usual, some very lovely finishes.

The first row is Eileen's Pineapple Blossom from Bonnie Hunter's and Ruth's pretty sampler--something I think she said she did online.  The second row is Lynn's BEAUTIFUL Christmas Pickle from a workshop we did with the Possibilities ladies from awhile back (mine's nowhere NEAR done) and a beauty from Sandy.  The last row is another of Sandy's, a pattern she found online somewhere, and Patt's $5 block from one of our LQS', Quilter's Dream.  Very nice!

Today I took a workshop with our speaker from last night, Ellen Lindner.  We did her double reverse applique and I finished one of the projects and will post pix of that tomorrow.

more show and tell

The rest of the photos I snapped while at Quiltsitters yesterday...

Leslie's Buckeye Beauty and adorable Christmas tree,  Diane's cute little watermelon, someone's (can't remember who) Moda Greenpiece and then Carolyn's Fire Escape and her scrappy beauty.  We have a very talented and prolific bunch of gals.

Oct. Quiltsitters

Thought I'd share a few of the cute show and tell items brought to Quiltsitters this morning.  There were so many, I'm going to break it down into two days of posts.  PLUS tomorrow is guild so will most likely have more photos to share from there AND then a workshop on Wed. with our speaker, Ellen Lindner.  Can't WAIT!

There's a cute little jack 'o lantern wallhanging/table mat, then an ADORABLE Jack porchsitter (I WANT ONE!!),  an eye spy ala Margie, our last quiltsitter mystery, Margie's blue/gray and Jill's very pretty quilt (it's on but also a book..I did one using Bonnie's instructions).  That's all for now..more tomorrow.

Here's my little Paganini (I think it's the newest or one of the newest Schnibbles) that I made up using the Cotton Blossoms line.  There's a group called Le Petite that is going to be doing a year's worth of small projects.  The first was an ironing board cover I think and I believe this is the second.

In the pattern, Ms. Rosie gave instructions on scalloped borders for the little quilt.  I think I'll give it a go as this is the perfect opportunity and I've never done them before.

And yesterday was my DGD's 14th birthday!!  Good GRIEF...I CAN'T be old enough to have a 14 yo granddaughter!  LOL  And my DH's birthday is today.  He's celebrating by flying to Minneapolis for business.

I've been getting entirely TOO MUCH help when I'm trying to sew...

but it's really not the kind of help I need!!!  He puts his paws and tail right where the needle is going up and down.  YIKES!!  I have to keep moving the paws and tail out of the way so they don't get stitched!! LOL

Ugly Fabric Challenge

Had to run up and take a peek at my 'competition' in the ugly fabric challenge.  I think Beverly said there were 48 entries--a couple of bags and a couple of bowls (one by my bud, JoAnne) but mostly quilts.  I only took a few pictures but there were some REALLY PRETTY ones!!

This gal used one of my favorite techniques for disguising ugly fabrics..she bleached it out!!  She used the fab as is in several of the tiny 9 patches but then used the bleached fab in the alternate blocks.  Her embroidery all around the edges was really pretty.

This just created the pretty pattern.

I'm thinking her ugly is the aqua in the center of the blocks.  The very centers were ruched and so pretty.

This was different from anything I ever recall seeing.  She used her ugly to make the lettering.   Very unique.

Marg did such a pretty applique Baltimore album style for her challenge.  Her ugly fab is the sashing/border fabric (she MIGHT have used some of it in the applique but don't recall for sure).

Isn't this a pretty interconnected, intertwined pattern?  I think she had the same ugly as me only in a pink colorway where mine was blue.

And finally, this was Val's.  She was the big winner last year and this year had the same ugly fabric as me IN the same blue color!!  SO different from what I came up with and so pretty.

It's been almost a week without a post so I thought I better get the ole rear in gear and get something up here!!  My friend, DeeAnn, was wondering what was wrong when I didn't get my BOM finished within two hours of picking it up!!  HAHA  I usually do pretty much come straight home and get it finished cause if I don't, I won't be ready when the time rolls around to pick up the next one.  That's just ME...anyone else like that?  My friend, Patty, pretty much every time, waits til the day it's due and THEN gets it done!!  I couldn't live like that--the PRESSURE!  LOL  So here tis

Now that's NEON!!  But I think it'll play nicely with all the other brights in these blocks.
