My DGD's been with me all week and I finally had to take her home today. But on our way to her house, we had to stop and pick up a few geocaches while looking for travel bugs to take to FL with us next month. We did several yesterday and had a good time. She's a good cachin' buddy!! Now I really MUST get busy sewing!!
Oh shoot, I've been meaning to share this since I first received it but just kept slipping my mind (sound familiar? LOL). Anyway, I thought of it AGAIN and this time followed through immediately so I didn't forget once more.
My friend, Judy, gave me this t-shirt she picked up in a quilt shop in Salado. I thought it was pretty funny and one I hadn't heard before. I've heard the usuals--UFO, WIP, PIG but never PHD. I'm sure to some this is not new but might be a new one for others of you. Whatever they're called, I sure have a LOT of them and need to get busy finishing at least a few in the new year.
Just thought I'd share an exciting opportunity that I found out about through Marlene. Here's what she had to say..
Marlene's nephew has started a new dot com business that they're thinking (and hoping, of course) will grow as fast as Groupon and bigger than Facebook (wow!). They send out a deal a day and, in an exciting and different twist, will get you 2% back on every item YOU purchase and 2% back on anything purchased by anyone who signs up under you (up to 5 deep!!). I've purchased restaurant certificates through another site like this but didn't earn a percentage back.
If you're interested, you can sign up here and then go tell YOUR friends!! This should be FUN!!
I got the idea from JoAnne to take a group photo after seeing hers with her family at Turner Falls. It was pretty funny with everyone all trying to smile with eyes OPEN at the same time but we managed to get a couple of good ones (I think anyway!). Of course, the two doofies had to be silly but that's OK..pretty standard for them! LOL
Who's that hiding under the Christmas tree? Do you see those glowing eyes?!! LOL His favorite spot til there got to be too many presents that they crowded him out. Most of them have been opened now so he has his space back!
OMG!! I just made the most AMAZING turkey gravy using a recipe from allrecipes.com. My niece and her DH smoked a turkey for Thanksgiving and it was SO GOOD they decided to do another for Christmas. I'm making a ham again for those non-turkey eaters in the family and wanted to go ahead and get the gravy made. This stuff is FANTASTIC and there's plenty for Christmas and enough to freeze for later. You can find the recipe here if you're interested.
A few photos from Quiltsitters today..was our annual Christmas party and, as always, so much fun!! We all bring pkgs. from our sewing room containing things we don't want or need anymore (no JUNK!). If it's fabric, it can't be scraps, must be at least a fat qtr. size. Some people brought complete kits in various stages of completion (or non-completion), patterns, books, rulers, orphan blocks, quilt tops!! WOW! And the food--YUMMY!
The first is Cindy's--this one was HUGE! She said she embroidered the blocks a few years back and put it together for her son and DIL for Christmas. Then Leslie's, another she made and gave me for QOV! She is SO PROLIFIC! This is the third she's given to me to pass along to QOV. I don't remember who these other quilts belonged to and the pictures are BAD! I lost my battery charger for my camera and my iphone doesn't have zoom so you get so-so pix. Oh well...
Haven't posted lately so thought I'd share a few photos from the guild show & tell tonight...
I forget who made the first one but I've done 9 patches like that and just really like that setting. The next one is Erema's then the 3 gals are showing off the results of the workshop with Debbie Maddy. Ruth's bee did the string quilt and it's going to one of the wounded soldier groups (not QOV but a different one). Sheri and another gal won the Christmasy log cabin blocks last year at guild and combined the blocks for a donation quilt--WTG Sheri & Sue!! Sheri even quilted it on the new machine she purchased in Houston. Then the last one was inspired by the Christmasy log cabins but she just did all her own blocks!
Just a quick post to show this month's BOM..took me longer than usual to complete for some reason. Normally, I pick it up, bring it home and get it whipped out by the next day. This time, it was a WEEK! LOL
I've started yet ANOTHER project thanks to a fellow blogger (such a PUNK! LOL). Will show pix in a couple of days.
We went to see the most recent Harry Potter movie yesterday and the brand new Narnia movie today. LOVED the Narnia..Harry Potter was OK.
I went to my Baltimore Album class yesterday but have no pictures. We were learning a ruched flower and it looks fairly easy. Will have to try it soon (before I forget! LOL).
Then last night, I attended our Sunday School class's annual auction. I think we did pretty good once again. Total raised before a couple of large items were added in was around $5,000. So not a bad night's work. I DID take a couple of photos there of some of the beautifully decorated tables. These gals really outdo themselves.
Well, I managed to get ONE picture today at Quilting for Christ (even though I forgot my camera!!). This is another taken with the trusty ole iphone. Guess it's better than nothing....
This will be going to Alycia for Quilts of Valor. I'd seen the picture SOMEWHERE on the internet and we wound up trying to reproduce it. I personally think it turned out great and think it will keep some beloved soldier warm and let them know how much we appreciate them.
We had TONS of tasty cookies and filled 6 (I think) tins full for folks who do things we really appreciate. A small token of our thanks.
I know you probably think I've been a lazy butt lately since I haven't been posting too much and even less posting about quilty things. So even though it's not QUITE finished, I'm going to show you one of the things I've been working on...
This is the "Wild Turkey" pattern by Country Threads. I thought it was SO CUTE and will use it during the Thanksgiving season. I'm bound and determined to get it done so that it will be a finished quilt
NEXT Thanksgiving. Plus, I've made mine larger..the original only had four turkeys and I made NINE! It's all hand appliqued so took longer than if I'd machine appliqued it. When I'm finished completely, I'll get crackin' on a couple of Christmas quilts which will hopefully be ready for NEXT Christmas. LOL!
And a couple of gratuitous cat photos...
This goofy cat, like most cats, LOVES to crawl into boxes, bags, small spaces. I got some new sheets and they came in the standard plastic cover thingy. This was left on the floor and quickly discovered by Mr. Fang. He crawled in and made himself right at home! He's such a goober but so darned cute!!
Tomorrow is our final Quilting for Christ group of the year. We'll be partying a little, I'm sure, as we're all supposed to bring two dozen cookies. We make up tins for our custodians at church, the gals who do our longarm quilting for us, the church staff and we share the rest! So I made my standard Rolo's on pretzels topped with pecans. SOOO easy and SOOO yummy! We'll also TRY to get some things finished up and taking home 'homework'. I'll try to take pix.
Frosty's Night Out
Living in Denver part-time is quite fun for my husband and me. Our
grandson is keeping us busy! We have new places to explore, and a new
