We left yesterday from Port Everglades.  I think there were at least 5 or 6 ships in port!!  WOW, hope they're not all going to the same place as us..that'll be CROWDED!!  We had our quilt meeting/get acquainted thingy last night and Deb gave away the first quilt (I didn't WIN, what a surprise!).

We were being followed as we left the port last night, YIKES! LOL  Then the view of Atlantis in Nassau off our balcony.  In the other direction, a lighthouse at the end of the strip of land and lastly our beautiful, HUGE ship (docked next to some really PUNK ships! HAHA) taken as we got off in Nassau.  We didn't have any shore excursions here so got off briefly then back on to laze around the pool.

A little sewing this after to familiarize ourselves with the machines.  Guess we'll find out then who are teacher is for the first day of sewing.  Can't WAIT!  More later...

Mary over at Quilt Hollow had asked me a few days ago to post a picture of a quilt I'd made.  She had shown a picture of this quilt she'd recently quilted and I had commented that I'd made the same quilt!!  It was in one of the quilt magazines back in 06 or 07 and I was instantly smitten when I saw it.  It was in our guild's 2008 show and, as usual, there was tons of competition.  I can't remember if it was a 2nd place or 3rd but I was pleased.  It was FABULOUSLY quilted by the greatly talented Susan Corbett.  She's FANTASTIC.  So, without further adieu, this is for Mary--

Isn't that quilting to DIE for?!!

Well, I had this brilliant idea this evening to drive down to Cowboys Stadium and take a picture in front of the big XLV they had erected outside the stadium.  NOT!  They have the stadium fenced  in, locked up, surrounded and security'd to the hilt.  There was no even getting close unless, of course, you wanted to anty up $40 a pop for a stadium tour.  We decided against that & went to dinner instead.

We ate at El Chico's and, as I headed to the restroom, overheard the hostess telling a guy at the bar that they were selling their parking spots for $200 each on Super Bowl Sunday...WHAT?!!!  So as we were leaving, I had to ask her if I'd heard correctly.  Yep, she said, and that was a bargain!  She said several places around there were going for $500 and up?!  WHAT?!!!  The Wal Mart next door was going to be closed that Sunday--the NFL paid them to be closed so they could sell their parking spots?  I had NO IDEA!!  GEEZ!!  She told me I shouldn't come anywhere near that area unless I had tickets.  I told her not to worry, I would be on my cruise!  She thought that sounded like a much better idea!  Me, too.

I've been working on my 24 log cabin blocks to finish up that BOM ufo.  Slowly, but surely.  What I REALLY need to be doing is getting some more stuff gathered up and packed.  Don't know why I wait til the last minute!  HA  Anyone else like that?

The one on the left is the one made for the kids' camp and the smaller one on right is for the county hospital.  I actually made the blocks for the small one and another larger one yesterday and got the smaller one all put together.  I was on a ROLL!!

I've got this week and then Sat. we head out on our quilting cruise!  In the meantime, I'm bound and determined to make some headway on my neutral BOM.  Seeing Margie's at quiltsitters the other day (see post a few days back) made me realize that wouldn't be too terribly hard to get finished up.  So that's my plan (for now anyway...LOL).

I've about got this QOV finished..started this eons ago just using scraps outta my scrap bag.  For whatever reason, I got re-motivated (maybe it was seeing JoAnne's rail fence) and think I'll just put a single border on to make it a tad bigger.  When my DH was looking at it, he asked 'is it crooked'?  I said well yeah, kinda, it's WONKY!  HAHA

At guild the other night, there was a request for members of our guild to provide 25 quilts (45X54 specifically) for kids with cancer (I think I heard that right) when they attend camp this summer.  So I thought I can do a rag quilt (or two or three) and went to Joann's.  I got one COMPLETELY done today and it's in the dryer as we speak.  I'll take a picture of it later.  I've got one more cut and flannel for a third so I'm pretty pumped!!  I really HATE waiting til the last minute.

We had our guild meeting tonight and had beautiful show & tell.  The first is Shawn's and it's made with swap blocks ala Lynn Roddy Brown--she spoke at our guild awhile back and a bee formed after her visit strictly to do block swaps.  Then there's Patty's BEAUTY that she's worked on quite a while and finally got er done.  Nice JOB, Patty!  Traci Richter did the wonderful bear paw and a lovely quilt (with a GREAT story but too long for here) that Kathy Jurich made her hubby for Christmas (with a little help from her friends!!).  Darlene made a patriotic sampler from blocks made in a bee exchange and Michelle made the beauty from a friend's grandma's dusters and bathrobes which will be a gift for the friend's mom.  Very colorful!!

OK, I had a request (a DEMAND really! LOL) to change my blog background.  Was told 'Christmas is over, let's move on'--HMPH!  The NERVE!  HA  I really kinda liked the snowman with the falling snow effect and thought that could probably take me all the way til the end of Jan.  But I guess not!  So switched to one that's just a hint of Valentine's..not SCREAMING.  So there ya go, Judy (punk! LOL).  But I DID leave the falling snow cause it's still COLD!

Today was our monthly quiltsitters and there was, as there always is, some fabulous show and tell.  Couldn't leave you guys outta the loop so here they are...

I don't remember the first two gals' names but the green was a king-sized made using Debby Maddy's labyrinth pattern and the second she used a panel..her Christmas quilt is ready for 2011!!  HAHA

Then Margie showed her DH's picnic quilt..said she made 3, two using Aunt Grace fabs (I think) and then the western one for the hubs.  Her 2nd is a $5 BOM from two or three years ago, I think.  I did the same colorway but still only have the blocks.  So Margie's WAY ahead of me there.

Diane brought the star one--was made by a friend's mom and she decided she wanted it a finished quilt for her daughter I think so now it just needs binding and it will be a finished quilt.  The next two are Diane's (she flipped the one just as I was taking the pix and my battery was dying so left it as is).  Finally, Val's cute Buggy Barn hearts..LOVE those colors and then her labyrinth in beautiful colors.  That's all, folks!

Went again this morning to sit with the raffle quilt and had a record sales day (2 hrs.) for me anyway! LOL  We were at Cabbage Rose quilt shop and my first visit since she's moved across the street.  It's a beautiful shop, so nice and spacious even with all that she has in there.  So if you're local and haven't visited yet, now's a good time since they're celebrating their 13th birthday (I can't believe it's been that long already!!).  Back to the ticket sales report--FORTY EIGHT tickets sold in two hours.  AWESOME!!  And one month til we draw the lucky winner's ticket..Ooo, I hope it's me!!

And yet another HOB assembled!  Two more to go so will hafta get busy and cut some more blocks.  We didn't get to that the other day, though I did cut some QOV blocks just like the HOB.

I've been working on some different blocks for another QOV just using my red, white & blue scraps.  I think it's coming out nice and should be able to get that assembled some time this week.  Will show pix once it's assembled.

Thursday, January 13, 2011

After yesterday's marathon cutting group at the church yesterday, I figured I better get my rear in gear and get an HOB assembled since now I have sashing & cornerstones as well as the blocks for THREE MORE!  YIKES!  But it IS a good thing!

The sun was shining through the window (for the first time today) but I just snapped the pix anyway.  You get the drift, right?  You've seen many of these before.  This one still needs the sashing/cornerstone piece along each side and it'll be ready for the quilter.  YAY!

I've been working on several different projects all at once so I don't make a great deal of headway on any one specific project.  But they're all getting closer to completion since I'm working on them, right?  That's what I keep telling myself anyway--LOL!

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Today a few of us met at the church to do some cutting.  That never seems to get done when we have a bi-monthly meetings as we're busy sewing!  I had blocks for 3 HOB quilts but no sashing so those got cut today.  Also several rag quilts were cut as well as backing for a few different quilts.  So next week for our regular meeting, we'll have a variety of things to work on!  YAY!

Charlotte and Donna are hard at work as well as JoAnne and we got LOTS done.

Saturday, January 8, 2011

Last night, we went to dinner at a place in Roanoke that we'd never been to before.  The food (IMHO) was just so-so but they had this really COOL pickle dish quilt hanging on the wall!!  My picture is not the best (the ole iphone again) but still...isn't it neat?
Then on the drive home, I was ooo-ing and ahh-ing all over about the
gorgeous sky.  I mean, this picture doesn't even begin to do it justice.  And
this was quickly snapped out the car window (hence the tail lights of the car
     next to us! LOL).

My friend Patty Pooh took me out to lunch today for a belated birthday celebration.  While out and about, we also managed to hit two quilt shops and I 'forced' her to do a little geocaching with me (my goal is to do at least one cache per day during 2011..lofty goals, I know! LOL).

Our first stop was at the Blue Ribbon quilt shop in Wylie.  It is such a cute shop in an old downtown building.  There are always lots of cute samples on display and I just took a few pictures.  The 'stick' figures (for lack of a better term) are ADORABLE.   The witches' faces table topper, or whatever else
you'd use it for, also had one made up in santa faces.  Then the CUTE, CUTE wreath--LOVE it!    I was tempted to buy the pattern but figured it'd just be one more I'd never get around to making.
After leaving the quilt shop, we walked down the street and had lunch in a wonderful little tea room.  I love eating in tea rooms.  Patty and I both enjoyed our meals and, after leaving the tea room, I noticed a beautiful home across the street with a National Historic Registry sign out front.  It was built in the late 1800's by the couple forever immortalized in the statue.  Oh BROTHER, I can't remember their names (I KNEW I should've written it down) but really thought the statue, as well as the house, was beautiful.
We then drove a short distance to a small cemetary and found the cache I was seeking.  I never look good in pictures but ones you take of yourself always look WAY worse (although Patty looks pretty darned good!!).  After our brief geocaching expedition, we headed down the road and stopped at Suzy's.  No pictures there but more 'damage' was done and we did our part to help keep them in the black!  HA  It was a very fun day!!

WOOHOO!!

I'm really starting to get excited and the countdown is underway!  We're headin' out on a QUILTING CRUISE with Stitchin' Heaven quilt shop.  Here's a youtube with the teachers--

YIPPEE--Lynn Hagemeier from Kansas Troubles, Sandy Klopp from American Jane and Edyta Sitar from Laundry Basket Quilts.  How COOL is that?!!  And to top it off, cruising on the beautiful Oasis of the Seas.  Stitchin' Heaven offered kits for all projects so off course I went with that option.  I'll just need to take a few basic sewing supplies but they'll have the machines as well as a quilt shop on board.  She also has a ton of fun games and giveaways (including a finished quilt every night of the cruise!).  I have a feeling we're gonna have a BLAST!!

Monday, January 3, 2011

The pix is kinda washed out but wasn't real crazy about the pix without flash so darned if ya do, darned if ya don't.  Oh well...this is the most recent BOM I picked up Sat. while sitting with the raffle quilt.  10 down, 2 more to go.  Can't WAIT to see the setting for this one.

Sunday, January 2, 2011

So the family went to Babe's in Roanoke tonight to celebrate my sister's and my birthday (her's was yesterday the 1st and mine is Tues. the 4th) and made total pigs of ourselves (so what's NEW?!!).  If you've never been and you live anywhere NEAR the DFW metroplex, you MUST go.  Fried chicken (or chicken-fried steak if you must) to DIE for!!  If you don't live here but ever come for a visit, seek out a Babe's as there are several around and treat yourself.  Trust me, you WON'T be sorry!!

But an odd thing they do to birthday folks is make em wear these scary chicken hats!  First off, I don't know where these hats have been--LOL!!  But I was a good sport and put it on and flapped my arms like a chicken (per instructions) as they sang Happy Birthday, Babe's style!  Fortunately, I didn't get the camera out til AFTER I'd removed the hat.  I DID get pix of a few others in our party wearing the hats..HAHA!

DGD said she was makin' like a chicken (though I'm not sure how she'd know how a chicken goes!), doofy #1, then doofy #2 with #1 son and finally the doofies mom (who I think was flapping her wings?!!).  The two doofies got up with the waitress and danced the hokey pokey but I couldn't get a good shot of em from where I was sitting.  Trust me, it was CUTE!

raffle quilt

I was sitting with the raffle quilt yesterday at Quilter's Dream during part of the time they were doing their $5 BOM (this is our tenth block so only two more to go! YAY!!).  JoAnne was there with Shawn for the 10-12 shift and I relieved her at noon.  But I coerced her into having her picture made with the raffle quilt before she left!!

Doesn't she look lovely in her red?  And her birthday's coming up very soon!!  If you visit her blog, leave her a birthday wish.  Me and my partner actually sold more tickets than JoAnne and her partner!  LOL  We're drawing the winner at the Feb. guild meeting, the meeting where BONNIE HUNTER will be our guest speaker!  YIPPEE!!

Saturday, January 1, 2011

Here's wishing everyone a FANTASTIC 2011!!  Hope you accomplish all your goals (quilty and otherwise), that you experience good health, happiness and whatever your little heart desires! LOL

I'll be sittin' with the raffle quilt today at my home away from home LQS--hope we sell lots of tickets and make lots of money so we can have LOTS of great speakers!!  Will have pix later.
