LOOK WHAT I GOT IN THE MAIL TODAY!!!!  Some time back, Taryn hosted a little quilt show on her blog and made the generous offer of 1/2 yd. of her favorite cheddar for (I think) the first 30 entrants.  Lucky me, I got mine in quick enough to be among the lucky recipients and I have been 'patiently' waiting for said cheddar to arrive.  When it did today, this beautiful little quilt was tucked in with the cheddar.  WOW!!   It is SO BEAUTIFUL!!   I don't have very many small quilts (mostly what I have I purchased from AAQI along with a couple I bid on and won at local quilt shows) so this will most definitely be cherished.  THANK YOU, Taryn, I LOVE it!!

What's cooking

Our ingredient of the week was cinnamon.  That opened so many possibilities but I went with probably one of the easiest (though a huge favorite of mine--not necessarily a GOOD thing!!).   Whenever I'm in a venue that has these tasty treats available, I can smell em 5 miles away.  HA  It is NOT a good thing that they are always available at the Houston quilt festival as I usually make a pig out of willpower whatsoever.  The recipe for cinnamon roasted almonds is one more yummy recipe from  Enjoy!!

My design (not designer) floor

Didn't I tell you just recently how I flit from project to project?  Here I go again!!  I've seen a few of these around blogland and, since I've also been working on some kid quilts like this, decided to start an 'adult' quilt in the blue and cream theme.  My blocks wind up at 8.5" and I need to check on how many I'll need to get a queen size-ish quilt.  I think it's going to be really pretty if I ever get it done!!  LOL

Leaving in two weeks for a southern Caribbean cruise..can't WAIT!!!

Oh yeah, remember this one from the other day?  Just one more row of smaller half square triangles and she'll be ready to send off to the longarmer.  Should be plenty of time to get quilted, come back and get the binding on before the 4th.  I'm really liking it.

What's on my design floor

This is one of the projects I'm working on at the moment.  It was a youtube tute by Missouri Quilt Co. (I think that's right), one they copied with permission, of course, from 3 Dudes Quilting.  Using a jelly roll and a rather unique way of making the blocks, it's so easy!  I had to search and search to find another jelly roll in the same line so I could make this one bigger.  It'll be a Christmas quilt (I know, there's BLACK in there!!).   Maybe I'll show the other tomorrow.  It's a Jan Patek from her "Flags of the American Revolution" book.  Another one that is SO CLOSE.

I flit from project to project and sometimes even wind up getting some of them to the flimsy stage!    I worked on this one during the time Frank was sick last year and continued slowly with it once I got him home to hospice.  But since then it's been languishing and I finally decided I needed to get it out and get it done so that maybe it will be ready in time to adorn the wall for the 4th of July!!  Will let you know how I progress with that!  I have two half-square triangle borders and I think that should take care of it.
And can someone tell me why, when there's a sofa, bed, carpeted floor and even a throw to cozy up on, will a cat choose a box or a plastic bag to 'snuggle' in?  Got the photo in the box but missed it when he was in the plastic bag.  LOL  Goofus.

I'm still having a hard time doing a post like I want (& used) to.  I can't get the picture posted without using the stupid html button then clicking the compose link to get back to where I can type.  ARGGHH!!  Anyway, since I was 'puterless' on Judy's 'what's on your design wall' day but I had taken the picture, thought I'd just post it now.  This will be a QOV sent to Alycia when finished.

Our church group just sent 7 HOB quilts to Robin, our TX coordinator, and she asked that this be our last batch sent to her.  The good news is since our troops are exiting the area, the need will be diminishing greatly--a VERY good thing.  Bad thing is we still have lots of civil war fabric left.  So one of my thoughts was we could just make them bigger and they will work for QOV quilts as well (kinda like the one in the picture..HA).  I know that most of them seem to like the patriotic look in their quilts but some make like the civil war look maybe?  Sure hope so.

What's cooking

Well, I'm working on a bit of a learning curve right now.  First off, I am NOT tech-saavy at ALL!  My computer screen broke a few days ago and I went to have it looked at.  $300-500 was the diagnosis.  WHAT?!  You can buy a brand new laptop for that!  So that's what I did.  And with my tech-saavy DH now residing in his heavenly home and no longer here to help me, I'm on my own (which is not a good thing!!).  I've been trying to learn the in's and out's of this new one but it's really taking probably far longer than it should.    But I did want to chime in for Judy's What's Cooking (this time around it's coconut).  The product pictured is not mine but merely a representation.  Mine tasted good but didn't look that good!  LOL

Anyway, it was a very simple but YUMMY recipe I found here.  And believe me, she has so many fantastic sounding recipes that I need to try (but I don't cook much anymore since it's only me here..and I sure don't need stuff like this around that I'll eat all by myself!!).

This was on my 'design wall' this it all sewn together and will snip, wash and dry this evening.  Another cute little rag quilt--I never get tired of these or the HOB quilts.  Can you tell?  HA  Going to try to get more HOB blocks sewn before our next quilt group meets this Thurs. at the church.  Still binding one of those two quilts from the other day and plan to get that done before Thurs. as well.
