WOOHOO!

Flimsy DONE!!  Now to get two backs done and off to the longarmer they go!  Woop!

Reviewing 2014

I was going back looking through my blog posts for 2014 and see several projects I'd really like to finish up in 2015.  So I figure MAYBE if I list them, it will be a good reminder and some of them might actually get done.  I think at this point in time, I have FOURTEEN baby rag quilt kits cut and ready to sew.  That would be sew easy to sit down and get them done but have I?  NOOOOO!  So that will be among the aspirations.

This one is SO CLOSE and it would make a GREAT 4th of July quilt, don'tcha think?  Must finish.
This was a free BOM from Quilt Doodles and she's having a linky party in Jan. for those wanting to show their finished projects.  Mine won't be done by then but the final quilt was so cute I'd really like to finish mine.  Right now she's showing ways to embellish to make it even cuter!  And she's having another free BOM in 2015.
Pretty sure I got all my houses built and much of the windows and doors are on.  Just need to finish those that aren't complete and put it together.
Got all the alphabet complete and only needs putting together.  It would make a GREAT baby quilt ready to go when the need arises if only I would finish it.
This was going to be a donation quilt probably for Quilts of Valor.  Will have to root around and find it then put a border on it and send it off to Alycia at http://alyciaquilts.blogspot.com/

Will stop there as I don't want to dig a hole so deep there's no way I'd get out!  LOL

OK, well....

It's ALMOST ready for the longarmer--still needs a border.  This is going to hang in the foyer for 1 month out of the year so, while not critical, I'd like it to look decent just in CASE anyone should happen to stop by (and the house is presentable enough to let them in! HA).  Not sure if I want to do a Christmas print or just red, maybe with snowflakes or something.

LOVE this!!!

It's pretty much my (c)attitude to a T!!

Finished a few more

but not liking those two 'darker/duller/mushy' ones so they'll probably wind up on the back.

OK, I'm done showing you 'progress'.  Next time, it'll be ready for the longarmer (but don't hold your breath, OK? LOL).  I do think I need a couple more with the more red (like the plaid) background color.  Something needs more zip, zing!

Apres Christmas

We had a really good time at our family gathering and took our apres goofy pictures to memorialize the event!  Bunch of sillies..my nephew's idea to add wigs to the fellas!

Here I am pretending to be busy in the kitchen (I think my niece snapped this without my noticing using MY camera!!).
Think she also snapped this 'action shot' of one of the rugrats (also using MY camera..but I think it's pretty funny!).
Here's little Magoo.  He's blind and my niece thought it funny to give him another pair of eyes.  He don't get no respect (poor boy..HA).

I'm beginning to see a forest growing...

Well, OK, maybe just the leftovers from a Christmas tree lot but the beginning of a small forest anyway! LOL  I think I'm going to like this one.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

I got another pair of trees made today and picked out fabric for a couple more pair so maybe this is doable.  Well, of COURSE it is!!  I may get a couple more made tomorrow but there's also some prepping to do in the kitchen for Christmas day dinner.  I'll be over at my niece's tomorrow night for a quiet Christmas eve.  SO, since I'll probably be 'offline' for the next couple of days, just wanted to wish you a wonderful Christmas and hope that you are able to spend time with friends and family!!  And remember the true reason for Christmas....

Trees!!

YAY!  I decided to try a couple of trees (of course, there will always be a reverse twin for each block if you make them the way Amy suggests) but I wanted mine a little bigger so started out with an 8 1/2" square of the green and cream.  The trimmed trees (HA, I KILL myself..brother) wound up 10 1/2 X 7 1/2".  I think this will be a good one to hang during the Christmas season in place of the pumpkins!!  Now I just to go find some more suitable fabrics and make more trees.

My iron decided to die today (it's incredible what short lifespans they have!!) so I'll have to make a Walmart run.  Good grief, today of ALL days!  But I've been needing a new ironing board cover for awhile so will grab one of those also and a couple other things to make it worth the trip.  And if I keep it down to just a few items, maybe I can self checkout.  Those things always aggravate me!  Do they aggravate you, too, or is it just me?

some Christmas quilt ideas

I have a couple of small Christmas quilts but haven't gotten them out yet so probably won't this year.  One is a rag quilt wall hanging with a Christmas tree and, if I remember correctly, a few presents underneath.  My DGD always used to come over and say 'grandma, why do you still have the pumpkin quilt up, it's almost Christmas!'.  But she rarely comes over anymore so don't have that push to get out the Christmas stuff.  But I do think I'll maybe start a Christmas quilt like the Halloween one as that was relatively painless to make.  We'll see.  So I'll do my usual showcasing of a few Christmas quilts I found on Pinterest.

I love this tree quilt and might have to do one of these since there's also a tutorial from Diary of a Quilter!

Look at this adorable runner!!

I think these adorable yo yo Christmas trees would be pretty quick to whip up.
 SO CUTE!
I have this pattern and have meant to make this for the past several years.  Quick but you DO have to start & finish.  Maybe it'll get done in 2015.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas with family and friends.

Finished binding

I have NO CLUE why I do (or don't do) just little things needed to finish a quilt.  I think I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago that I'd run across a quilt that had the binding stitched on but wasn't hand stitched down.  It's got to have been laying around for 3-4 yrs. in this state!!  What a dipstick for not just finishing it.  But NOW it's done--will need to lay out flat on a spare bed underneath a few other quilts to hopefully 'press' those creases out.  Dope!

a little sewing

I've actually done a little bit of sewing the past couple of days.  And when I say little, it's exactly what I mean.  I found the cutest tutorial over at Fun with Barb and actually made one of these in Halloween fabric for myself a few years ago and it's still in my purse.  They're really very easy and so I got busy and made a bunch as little gifties for my bunco buds.  I don't like doing the big gift exchange so am making a little gift bag for each one of them.  These are the Kleenex holders I made

and I got some really cute packages of tissues in Christmas designs and put those in them.  I also made each one of them a little jar of winter smooth hand scrub made with brown and white sugar, olive oil and lemon essential oil.  Hope they like it.  I sure do as it really makes my hands smooth when at times they feel so rough and dry.  I'm pondering making a batch of toffee and putting in just a small amount for each of them as well.  We'll see how that goes.  But they'll for sure get the tissue covers and the hand scrub as those are already done!  YAY!

UGH!!!

I really do not enjoy the Christmas season!!  Don't get me wrong--I'm all about the celebration of Christ's birth and all but I think the overdoing,  commercialization and all that drives me insane.  And it HAS been much harder since the death of my hubby.  This will be the third Christmas he's been gone but it seems SO very long ago.  Feels like I've been alone for MANY years..so many, in fact, that it's often hard to remember a time he was here with me.  Sorry, don't mean to be such a downer.

Just thought I'd post a few of others photos since I probably won't work on any myself.  I did find a quilt I did a few years back that had the binding stitched ON but not DOWN so dragged it out and will try to get that polished off in the next couple of days.

My 'baby' turns 27 tomorrow.  Can't hardly believe it--and there again, third birthday for him since his dad's been gone.  :-(

I think I started this a couple of years back but haven't run across it in the unpacking of things.  Maybe one of these days it'll surface.
This is so pretty.  If I cared anything about decorating around the house, I'd want my bed to look like this.  So cute!
 A great little wallhanging.
Presents..I really don't do presents per se anymore.
Trees..don't do these anymore either.  But this is really cute.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Doubt that I'll have anything to post between now and turkey day so thought I'd pass along my wishes for a wonderful day with friends and family!

At the local antique mall

Had our monthly ladies birthday lunch at the local antique mall today and snapped a couple of beautiful quilts that would be lovely for the Christmas season.  But I really need to make my own rather than spend a few hundred I don't have for one of these--

and one that's not so Christmas-y but still pretty

It's done

Well, the top anyway (still needs a little pressing but only the two long edges!!).  I need to get backing made and want to finish up the jelly roll quilt (just a border for that one) with backing and take both to the longarmer for just an all over pantograph.  That way I'll have two that will need binding and I can cover up and keep warm while doing it!  LOL  Then there's a Christmas quilt I want to get started on..I know, a little late on the start but it'll be done for next year, right?

It's FREEZING!!!

We had such beautiful weather just a couple of days ago but that has ALL changed!  It is SO COLD and I have a roaring fire going trying to stay warm.  Yesterday, before it got bitterly cold, I stopped at my favorite 'twig gathering' spot to pick up some starter twigs for the fire.  It's by a church and when I pulled into the parking lot--WOW!!  There were some BEAUTIFUL red-hued trees that just GLOWED.  My photo doesn't do it justice..you'll just have to take my word for it!

Then today I had to run by my church and noticed how cool the clouds looked so thought I'd share a couple of photos of those.

You will be proud to know that I have put the 'stop' border on the Halloween quilt and have two sides of the final border on.  Will take a final photo once it's complete.  I'm even surprising myself!!  LOL

THANK YOU!!

To all who served and some who gave the ultimate sacrifice, we salute you!  And thank you for your service to our country.

Center is done

but this is usually where I slack off!!  If I could get the borders done on this one and the jelly roll race-type quilt, I'd have two to take to the longarmer.  Hmmmm, wonder how that'll go!!

Clicking along

on my Halloween quilt (yes, I know, it's day 3 AFTER Halloween!!).  Think I only need 5 more blocks before I'm done with that portion of the quilt.  No telling how long it will take to get it to the 'ready for quilting' stage.  We'll see....

Slowly but surely

my Halloween quilt is growing.  Thinking I'll not make it square (as in the picture I posted of the one I'm copying) but probably 6X7.  That means I'll need a total of 42 blocks and have 26 which MEANS I have to make 16 more!!  I'm one of those 'instant gratification' types (at least where my quilting is involved) so I've joined a few together.  This is the easy part--the tough part'll be all those 2.5" squares joined together for the outer border.  UGH!

Fall Flimsy

OK, again, DON'T FAINT!!  I bought a jelly roll from Kris over at Lavender Quilts and decided (AFTER bunco, of course) to just sit down and do a 'jelly roll race' style quilt from the roll.  I stupidly just took off sewing without reacquainting myself with just exactly how to DO the pattern.  You're supposed to cut one of the strips in half to begin with (I believe, I still haven't checked) but I only cut off like 6-8".  So it still put my joined placed in pretty close proximity.  But that's OK, it's just going to be a small quilt I keep on the sofa for my toesies this winter.  I'll press all those seams, put a couple of borders on and maybe have the longarmer just do an all over panto of leaves  or something.  Easy and DONE!!  Now to get back to a few more Halloween blocks before it's over.

PLEASE don't faint...

but I actually stitched something!!!  This is monumental (sorta) LOL!  I figured if I stitched on a quilt for the current upcoming holiday each time a holiday approaches, MAYBE I'll have it done next time the holiday rolls around!!  Maybe a stupid plan but it's what I'm goin' with.  Now I just need to see if I can find my Halloween fabrics.

Halloween will soon be upon us

and, as usual, I haven't done anything quilty for the spooky season.  UGH!!!  I have a couple of cute kits but I've other things to prepare for (like cleaning up this messy house for Oct. bunco!!).  SOO I'm cheating a little and sharing a few cute quilt ideas for those who DON'T have other things to prepare for--LOL!!

This one would be SO simple to whip up!  Maybe after bunco!

Cute, CUTE and doesn't look difficult at all!!  Think it would be just as cute made with wonky stars (note to self as I don't do particularly well with this kind of star).
Oh my GOSH!!  HOW CUTE!  Gonna hafta try to figure this one out.
(I actually found the tutorial for this block here).
Adorable kit from Connecting Threads but no longer available...  :-(
I LOVE this--it's just pretty and subdued.
I think I read this one was from Joined at the Hip.  Will have to look into it as I love the cat and pumpkin.  (It IS from Joined at the Hip and I ordered it and 3 others as well--ACK).
Easy breezy rail fence using black and orange.  EFFECTIVE!
