11 done

But only 9 pictured..one is on the dining room table with three pieces of fabric laying on it that will become door and window pieces.  The 11th is still in 3 strips (chimney strip, roof strip and house strip).  I have managed to get some of the doors and windows done and hopefully it won't take too long.  I DID manage to get a lot of the pick up/clean up done in the two spare bedrooms so maybe they'll be presentable next week but I think the sewing room is a lost cause for now.

I'm liking this!!

The rest of the day has been spent making food for our monthly Ronald McDonald dinner.  I've probably mentioned before that my Sunday School class takes dinner once a month to the residents staying at the house.  The gal who coordinates it does such a fantastic job of doing a variety each month and making sure it's more like a home-cooked meal.  So many organizations bring in spaghetti or tacos and the house manager has said they really get kind of tired of those (even though they ARE grateful for any food brought in).  Tonight we're doing meatloaf (eww, dog food!!) and rotisserie chicken (can you guess what I'll be eating?!) with vegetable casseroles and desserts.  There's always a fresh salad and bread included.  I'm taking sweet potato casserole, sweet baby carrots and a peach & cream cheese torte.  After we serve anyone who comes for the meal, we sit down to partake and then put everything away and clean up.  It's such an enjoyable time to be with such wonderful friends providing a much needed service and having fun doing it!

Must quit for the day

I'm having 'the girls' over in about a week and a half and the house desperately needs work.  Still a TON of stuff to put away and I did tell one gal there might be a couple of doors closed (which obviously means no peeking!).  But my plan has been to spend an hour or so putting stuff away and so far I've done pretty good about sticking with the plan.  Today I've spent most of the day cutting and sewing and I'm leaving for the movies in just over an hour (Jack Ryan, Shadow Recruit), so better get it in gear.  Here's what I've accomplished--

I've flipped and flopped this a couple of times and still can't get all the reds together.  Will hafta work with it a little more but if not, it'll be reds and greens together!  UGH
And can you see I've got a wee bit of embellishment on a couple of the blocks (not sewn on yet, of course, but hey, it's made and pinned on in preparation for stitching).  I have 3 more houses cut and ready to sew so only 3 more to cut.  YIPPEE!

Still building

Got a couple more house blocks made..I better get busy embellishing them before I get too far ahead of myself!  LOL

There's another psychedelic-looking block but it's really just a stripe.  Strange.

And talking about building, a friend of mine is quite the craftsman and makes owl houses.  He decided when I moved into this house (and after seeing my big elm tree in the backyard) that I needed an owl house up there in that tree.  He came and installed it about a week ago so I've been keeping my eyes peeled for new occupants.  My fear is that with the number of squirrels around here, they will move in before the owls get a chance to!  I don't see myself climbing up there to yank a squirrel nest outta there and don't want to ask the house builder to come over and do that.  Keep your fingers crossed!  LOL

I was pulling into my driveway when I noticed the BEAUTIFUL colors and had to make a mad dash for the camera and out the back door before it disappeared..

Two down, too many to go! LOL

Here's the first (as yet unadorned) house block.  I have some parts cut for two more, hence the reason there's only right now!

Yeow, that left side isn't really that psychedelic in actuality! LOL  And ONE completed Christmas pineapple block with several others in various stages.

Uh oh, here we go

OK, so I've shown a couple of new projects I've started recently and there are a couple more I've found that I want to start.  UGH!!  This is probably one of the biggest downfalls of trying to cull a burgeoning batch of magazines and books.  I thumb through each and every one--if there's a project or projects within the pages that calls to me, I hang onto it.  If not, it gets repurposed.  I took a couple of bags and an armload full of these "to be repurposed" publications to my (at least WAS) friend, JoAnne, who was going to take them to guild.  I no longer belong to the guild but she does and they have a magazine table as a fundraiser where old magazines can be purchased for a quarter.  Not sure what they'll do with the books.

One of the additional new projects I want to start was done a year or so ago as a BOM led by some blogger (no clue which one but I saw it on a few blogs) and I believe it was called "Under Construction" where 12 house blocks were made one per month.  It was marked a long time ago in the book as something I wanted to do and I still want to so started pulling fabs (this will all be from stash) and doing a little cutting.  Here's a photo of one of the finished projects so you'll have an idea of what I'm talking about

But to offset the new starts, I decided I would also attempt to restart on two WIPs.  There's the pineapple blossom from Bonnie's site in red and green for Christmas based on this photo I saw from someone's blog that they'd seen in a show.

The other restart would also be from Bonnie's site--her scrappy trips around the world that I started not too terribly long ago.  I've shown a few blocks along the way, the ones with white running through the center of each block.  Every time I see one of the scrappy trips made up, I always think to myself that I really need to get busy and get that finished.  They're so pretty!!  So, that is my plan (for today anyway! LOL).  What do they say about the best laid plans of mice and men?  Yep!

I've been SEWING!!

I'd said I had sewn up the row of the month and done it wrong and WAS going to leave it that way but then changed my mind and decided to make it RIGHT!  Glad I did cause I'm sure those gigantic snowmen faces would've bugged me big time.  So here tis (sans eyes since I know longarmers don't like buttons and such to have to quilt around)--

And another project that's been on my radar for YEARS (OK, I really don't know how long it's been there, just since the first time I saw it in a magazine).  I've got the center done so I'm going to show a picture just so you KNOW I've been sewing--
and this is what it will look like hopefully before TOO long--
Oh well, OK, I see the middle isn't QUITE finished as the stars aren't on the 3 blocks where they should be but that won't take too long.   Will need to read the next couple of steps to see where I go from this point but that will have to wait.  Football's on and the season is very quickly drawing to a close so I'm gonna watch that instead of sewing for the rest of the afternoon/evening.

OK, I'm trying to get back on track with my sewing.  I found this adorable ROM (row of the month)
here and decided I'm going to make a run at it.  These snowmen faces are just so darned cute I couldn't resist.  I am, however, taking the easy route and just cutting the faces as one 6.5" square with connector corner triangles and the sashing strips top, bottom and in between.  Should save me some time.

I found another on the Dear Jane/Sentimental Stitches website that I've started.  This one will be substantially tougher so will see how that goes.  I got quite a bit done on their last one but didn't get the whole thing done.  Probably should just put together what I have or add a little of my own and call it good.  Here's a pix 'stolen' from Brenda's dearjane.com website of the first block...

I've also pulled a bit of fabric to be cut for pillowcases and am in process of cutting flannel for two more rag quilts.  Love them (as you probably already know!!).

Just a quick query here--does anyone know what happened to the blog http://inspiredbyantiquequilts.blogspot.com/ ?  I always enjoyed her blog but I checked a few weeks ago and everything was just gone!  I hope nothing bad has happened to her but can't for the life of me figure out why the blog would be totally wiped out!

I hope to be up and sewing some in the next few days since the work has my house is coming to a close for awhile anyway!  YAY!
