I'm SO glad Lesley posted a picture of her finished quilt top or mine would've looked weird with the blank space in the middle.  I was so focused on the four stars that I didn't pay attention to that little area right smack in the middle which made a fifth star!  Fortunately it was an easy enough fix and I got it done with only a couple of  bad words (mostly just calling myself an idiot!).

That's better and only needs that center seam sewn.  I thought I'd be done at this point but I really liked the way Lesley enlarged hers with the checkboard then plain border.  Seriously considering it....

Antique mall run

I was at the antique mall today looking for some little stuff and saw a couple of pretty patriotic displays (fancy that!), one with a quilt.

LOVE it (but didn't bother looking at the price!).  Then there was this beauty (not patriotic but still GORGEOUS!) and loved the display.

I have been on a roll (of the good kind) and got this puppy almost all together.  Just a few more seams and this one will be ready for quilting..YAY!

Finally got the patriotic pineapple to the longarmer..wasn't sure that was gonna happen.  The background I'd purchased turned out to be a little stretchy (of course I didn't notice when doing the half square tri's) and when I began putting the sashing in, it was not an easy task.  I already had the sashing pieces cut so nothing else to do but go with it and do it as good as was possible.  So when I got to the final outer border, the measurements were a bit wonky so decided to cut those on the long side which was less stretchy.  It still took quite a bit of easing and when I dropped off at the longarmer's, I just told her to do whatever she could do with the old rag!  (I was very aggravated with it!).  I'm sure she'll work her magic and I told her it was only going to hang in the entryway for 1 1/2-2 months each year so not a biggy.

I mentioned to her I had a couple other rags I needed to work on (those are the ones that, when I've made it to the final assembly point, there are stupid issues like ONE BLOCK is a different size from all the others.  ARGH!  That's when I pitch it aside and move on to something else rather than getting more and more aggravated.  So I came home and got this one out

and got the center together.  Now I'll just do a small then larger border and she'll have another rag to work on.  HA!  Can't do it this evening as our class is serving dinner at the Ronald McDonald house .  I made a Snickers candy bar pie and a coconut cream pie.  Pretty sure we're having ham and fried chicken along with our fairly standard fare of green beans, corn casserole, hash brown casserole, broccoli/rice casserole, fruit and green salad with yummy homemade bread and several fabulous desserts.  They always love to see us coming!  😊

Wally got his!

When Olivia was talking about Wally and his service, she said he had gone right into the Marines out of high school (like my #1 son) and was a flamethrower.   YIKES!  That sounds SCARY.  Not sure if he spent the entire 4 years doing that (hope not) but now he has his quilt.  Yay Wally!

I admit I'm a procrastinator and usually have way more projects in the pipe than I should have.  And this one IS small but just one more border (which will be the same as the background) and this one can be quilted.  I did have some issues with the background fabric as it was a bit stretchy so I'll probably cut the outer borders in the other direction to kinda reel it in and prevent anymore stretching while on the frame.

Have I mentioned I LOVE this one?!!  Star spangled pineapple quilt love!

I can just see this

hanging in my entryway NEXT 4th of July!  HA  I have two more rows with pinwheels then final outer borders and just about ready for quilter.  YAY!

I hit a couple of shops yesterday on the first day of row by row.  One shop was for a friend and the other was for me.  Last year I said I would NOT be doing it this year and mostly I won't.  I'm totally underwhelmed by the majority of rows so that makes it really easy to pass on them.  There are only a few I've seen that I really like and if I don't get them, that's OK by me.  Anyone else doing row by row?

working on the pineapple

It's coming along and I really, REALLY like it!!  I've got all the sashings cut and ONE pinwheel together.  Got a few more ready so I feel like I'm closing in on the finish.  At least it'll be ready for next year.  😉

Gone for a week

Was gone for a week up in SW Colorado..SO beautiful as always.  Weather was gorgeous (perfect, actually, except for a little nippy after dark).  Saw the musical TEXAS! in Palo Duro (again) and was great as it always is.  Did some geocaching, went to Durango for a rodeo and quilt shop visiting, did a little shopping in Pagosa, some card playing and a nice relaxing time.  Good to get home to the bed and kitten who's missed me.

Eating good Mexican food out on the patio watching the folks dipping in the springs across the way.

Gorgeous aspen trunks.

Trying to catch a hummer at the feeder.

Cards anyone?

And beautiful sunsets!!

Jim got his!

Displaying Resized_2.jpg
I didn't get to be there for this presentation but wanted to be sure his wife was there when he received it and she can't always make it.  So I just asked them to go ahead if she was there.  That's three who've received their's and a few more to go!

Two are cuter than one

Patriotic pineapple

Look at my first cute little pineapple!!!  I definitely won't have this one ready for THIS 4th of July but will push to get it done and to the quilter so I can hang it NEXT 4th of July.  I fell in love with it when I first saw it and started it right away (so it's only been a few days).  Today I was thinking I wish holiday projects would be shown 6-8 months out as then I MIGHT get it finished in time.  But then probably not, LOL.

The pattern can be found here and I want to thank Amanda for sharing this cute little quilt with all of us!

Larry got his QOV today

Larry was the recipient du jour today.  He was air force and had an interesting story about his brief encounter with Gen. Omar Bradley.   So that makes 2 delivered, 6 (or so) to go!  Woohoo!!

Soon another quilt

I saw this somewhere in blogland while looking for ideas for quilts using layer cakes and charm packs.  I don't know HOW I came to be the owner of SO many charms packs and a few layer cakes.  This one is not using a layer cake, I'm just cutting a bunch of the fabric that I really need to use.  This one block is 36" so the quilt will only take 4 blocks and will be 72" unless I decide to add a border (which I just might since that will use MORE fabric--GAH!).

I also ran up to the church today to pick up the final QOV I've been working on.  Since those were ALL started last year, I guess they qualify as finished UFO's huh?  Will be good to get them all parceled out to their much deserving owners.
