I'm not up and out often enough to see these.  But since I'm on chicken duty, I've been seeing more of them and had to snap a pix this morning.  Beautiful!!

I canNOT believe this is the last day of July.  Boohoo, winter's on it's way.  YUCK!  Need to start looking for a tropical place to spend about 3 mo. during the cold since I HATE being cold!

Last night I finished fusing a row from last year's row by row.  LOTS of little pieces but they're all on there now.  Now I gotta figure out how I'm going to secure them to the background.

Tony got his!

Tony is a very special guy (they all are, of course, but Tony is over the top!).  He is our Sunday School teacher and worked as an air traffic controller with my husband at Ft. Worth Air Traffic Control Center.  He is one of the best Christians I know (I know a lot of great Christians but Tony is off the charts!).  I don't think there's anyone who doesn't like Tony; he's kind, encouraging, giving, loving.  So his QOV had to be different.  He's made hundreds of little wonky crosses and always has a bowl of them in our class.  He encourages us to take a handful and share with people we run across in the course of our every day life--a way to encourage someone else, share Christ with them.  So when I was thinking about T's quilt, the idea to make a wonky cross block came to me and for whatever reason I chose the teal and gray colors.  I love it and hope he does, too (he seemed to!).

At this point in time, I have requests for 4 more quilts.  Good grief!  But I will persevere and get them done.  Love it!

Vernon got his!

Vernon, who served in the Marine Corps, got his Quilt of Valor today.  He told a couple of very interesting stories about assisting the Secret Service a couple of times during Bush 41's presidency when he visited Dallas.

(Vernon is on the left).

I also got a thank you note today from the couple who were presented a couple of weeks ago.  She was saying how much it meant to them as often, during their time in the service, they were spat on when in public and this was the FIRST 'tribute' to them since serving.  That is HORRIFIC!  One of many reasons why we do this.

I have a very generous friend who says she loves to paint.  So I've been considering painting my bedroom but I've usually just hired someone to do it.  I was getting some helpful hints from her and I GUESS she got tired of answering my questions and said 'I'm coming over and we're gonna paint your bedroom; we can knock it out in a couple of hours!'.  NO, I said, I'll do it just want some recommendations.  NO, she said, we'll paint it in a couple of hours.  So Sat. or Mon., which is better for you?  OK, Sat.  So her dear hubby came last night and taped everything then she showed up at 9 this morning.

Before (of course, all the furniture was moved to the center in disarray!)
Three walls were beige and the fourth was coral (my original plan was red but the painter got a coral..ugh).
After--some stuff has been put back in place but lots of stuff still not.  The teal behind the bed is about 1 shade darker than the other 3 walls.
I LIKE it!  But, as I was pretty sure before, I found I do NOT love to paint.  It was much more enjoyable with my friend there but still NOT fun!  LOL

Now I REALLY need to get a few things on the walls; they are bare.

Valentine quilt

I decided just to slap a border on this one and call it done.  It's a wall hanging and will only hang on the wall for less than a month each year so why go to a lot of trouble.  Besides, if I wind up ditching this place and hitting the road, it won't matter anyway (which is something I'm considering at this point).

Now I can take it to Mona when I take the other one and she'll have two to mess with.  Gonna tell her to go the extreme budget route on this one!

Ahhh, it's done!

I had it near finished but then had to put everything away and have my house cleaned because I was having company two days in a row--Monday our group of gals came over to play dominoes (14 of them!) and then Tues. eve the same group plus some (18!!) came over for our monthly 'salad supper'.  We each bring a dish to share and the hostess (that would be moi) provides the drinks and space.  It's always fun and glad to get my commitment done for at least a year.  WHEW!  Yesterday I pretty much vegged out and then got my rear in gear today and put the final borders on.  It's 96" square and as soon as I get a back cobbled together, I'll drop it off at Mona's.  I LOVE it.

Buddy and Mary got one

This was a fun presentation--both Buddy and Mary were in the Air Force.  Buddy flew in Vietnam and was also in Canada, Okinawa and somewhere else.  He and Mary met when they were stationed in Arkansas (I think that's right).  I STILL love this block so much and think it makes such a pretty quilt.

We had a little more rain yesterday and I noticed this beautiful rainbow out back.

I like it!

Love how this is coming along (just one more checkerboard border and the solid border) and so glad Lesley showed how she finished hers up.  I'm such a bad, bad copycat.  But don't they say that's the highest form of flattery?  Because we all know I wouldn't be doing this extra work if I didn't LOVE it, don't we?  LOL

I, like many of my quilting compadres, am not satisfied to have a mere ONE project going at a time.  I finished up the patriotic pineapple a week or so ago and then got to a near finish stage with the giant stars (until I saw Lesley's..remember?).  So I'm working on 9 patches for the borders.  Then I was looking through my books and found one of Jan Patek's books with a project I'd already cut some of the freezer paper templates for.  So when I noticed the finished size of the project and found it would be a good fit on my wall (to replace the pumpkins), I decide to start that one as well.   😕  I've got 3 of the flag blocks done already and moving on to applique--those stars are gonna kill me.

But as I'm working on this, I have a feeling I've started it before.  I just KNOW somewhere down the road I'm going to find some of this quilt in a semi-finished stage.  Oh well.

(this is a terrible picture from the book)

Happy Fourth!

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Fourth

and naturally had to include some patriotic quilts (not mine, just beauties found out there in the internet/pinterest sphere).

Craig got his today!

Today Craig, a Navy guy, received his QOV.  I think he liked it 😉(he's the guy on the left).
