On my 'design floor'

The blocks above will ultimately go into a QOV.  They are the blocks we used to make for HOB but they were pretty darned easy even for the beginners in our quilt ministry at church so I cut a ton in red, white and blue for QOV.  They languished for quite some time in a box in our 'quilt closet' so I brought then home a while back and have finally begun working on them.  For QOV, I need a 4X5 setting so that, with sashing and borders, they'll be large enough.  That means 11 to go for this one!

(Since I've had a couple of question re: the mention of HOB above, thought I'd just share a link for anyone who's interested to check out.  They are/were quilts made for families of soldiers who've made the ultimate sacrifice..just a small thank you for the service and sacrifice their loved one made. )

I didn't take a new picture because then I would've had to lay out all the blocks again and pick them up again (since my design 'wall' is not in place yet..still more to work on in the sewing room).  But I am so close to having enough and just need to push to the finish.  May get them completed today while watching opening day of the Texas Rangers (which I'm looking forward to with fear and trepidation given their injuries!!!!!).

This is merely a PSA (public service announcement) for all you guys out there living in the states who participate.

I volunteered this am with an organization called Bountiful Baskets.  I've done it once before and it is absolutely incredible!!  If you go to their website,, on Mon. or Tues., you can purchase a basket that's approximately 1/2 veggies, 1/2 fruit for $15!!!  The first time you buy, there's a $3 newby charge (to purchase additional laundry baskets) and then there's a $3.50 handling fee each time.  Most states have MULTIPLE cities participating and there are often a few pick-up places not too far from your home.  The states who participate are AZ, CO, GA, IA, ID, KS, KY, LA, MN, MO, MT, ND, NE, NM, NV, OK, OR, SD, TN, TX, UT, WA and WY.  Sorry if your state is not listed.  There are a certain number of baskets available at each pick-up location & once those are filled, there are no more for that given week.  There are also always extra stuff you can purchase like a juice pkg, salsa pkg, bread pkg., olive oil, etc.  It changes AND you can order your entire purchase for all organic for an extra fee.

Today, in my $15 basket, I got 3 red peppers, 3 English cucumbers, 3 broccoli crowns, 1 head cauliflower, 2 heads romaine, a bunch of bananas, 1 pkg. strawberries, 9 apples, 5 oranges, 5 grapefruit, 7 pears & 16 roma tomatoes.  Don't think you could get that for $15 in the grocery store.  IF you volunteer, you can take some of what's leftover (there are always leftovers) and if someone fails to pick up their produce within the allotted time slot, it's donated to a local fire station.  Isn't that cool?!!  Those strawberries smell so good, I must go eat some.  Hopefully at least a few of you will find this interesting and at check into it.  You WILL thank me!!  LOL

Well, that's the name of our Dallas basketball team--the Mavericks--but also one of the blocks I've been working on.  I've gotten five little maverick star blocks done (they're so cute!!).

AND I've gotten a bunch more of these done.  Think I counted 65 or thereabouts and I'm shooting for an 8X10 layout so only a few more will be needed.  Then it's just a matter of a stitching them all together and adding a border.  I think it will be a QOV quilt.  Maybe I should let my friend, JoAnne, finish it for me; she's gotten so good at that!  HAHA

I also have 30 of the QOV blocks like Kevin's doing but I'll just piece my own top and get it quilted.  I have enough for a 5X6 layout but think I'll go one bigger each way so that means I'll need 12 more blocks.  I think I can, I think I can......

Since there were only 3 entrants for the traveling stash box, the odds were pretty good (for one, anyway).  I put the names on slips of paper and drew....MELISSA!!  Hey Melissa, please send me your addy so I can get this in the mail to you tomorrow!  Thanks you guys and Melissa, I hope you find some goodies in the box that you love!

So scrappy bowties and another block (?)

I have been doing more work with the scrappy challenge color of teal--did a few more bowties and did a different block that I saw someone else had done (not sure what the name is).

AND I got the baby rag quilt done!!  YAY!  I have two or three more of these cut out so you'll probably be seeing a few more in the future.  Also did some work on QOV blocks and Scrappy trips blocks so I'm all over the place.  Maybe there will be some finishes in the future?  Sure hope so.

And don't forget..if you're interested in the traveling stash box, you can enter on the previous post.  Chances are exceptionally good as I think there are only two entrants so far.  I'll be drawing tonight so I can get it in tomorrow's mail!!!!  But you must be a resident of the US due to postage.  Thanks!

Traveling Stash Box

I received a traveling stash box in the mail today and, if you can believe, didn't find a single thing in there that I couldn't live without.  If you've been reading my blog of late, you'll remember all the moaning and whining about the size of my stash and other 'crap' I've accumulated over the years and how awful it was to move it all.  And just today, in the process of trying to rearrange my quilting room and make it easier to use and get to stuff,  once again I realized just HOW MUCH STUFF I have!  And I don't need ONE MORE THING!  I guess when I signed up for the traveling stash, I was thinking if there were one or two REALLY must have things in there, I could take and replenish.  But nothing just absolutely called to me and the box is SO FULL already I probably won't even be able to add to it.  SOOO...if you're interested in the traveling stash, please leave a comment and I'll pick a winner Thurs. night so I can ship it off Friday.  The rules for the traveling stash can be found here.  I really want to keep it moving.  There's fabric, patterns, a magazine and a few assorted items to be had.  PLEASE sign up for the stash box soon as this'll be quick!  Thanks!!

QOV donation blocks

I got the 4 donation blocks for MQX finished and they will go in the mail tomorrow.  If you remember, they had asked each quilter to make two and since I cut for 4, I said I'd make two for some lazy butt quilter!!  LOL  Well, that lazy butt has been identified and her name is JoAnne.  So if you know JoAnne, tell her to quit being such a lazy butt!!  HA  She's really NOT a lazy butt..she spends so much time finishing the UFO's I so generously donated (maybe some would call it ditched)  to our quilt ministry at church that she has very little time for anything else.  HAHA

I've also JUST about finished another rag quilt.  Two more seams then clip, clip, clip and it'll be ready to donate!  I also want to get busy making some more teal blocks for the So Scrappy challenge.

Scrappy challenge-bowties

I don't THINK I ever showed the four bowties for the monthly scrappy challenge over at So Scrappy.  This month is teal (or somewhere between blue and green!) and I've only gotten the four bowties done this month.  I really should try to get more done but I'm thinking once we hit the end of the year, all the bowties will probably go into a baby quilt for donation so don't think I need a whole bunch in any one given color.

I've been working on another baby rag quilt but working SLOWLY!  I did get a cute little easy baby quilt done for a baby shower.  The nursery colors are black and white so got some flannel in black and white and then a black minkee-type (read SOFT!!) fabric and just stitched around the outside with right sides together then 'birthed' it and stitched about 3" around the edges.  Will be good for the car seat or carrier but may not get used much since the baby's due in July and it's HOT here in July!
I got a few things planted in the yard blackberry (have one more to plant) and a few flowers plus two tomato plants.  We'll see if any survive!!  LOL

Today is the first day of spring!!

Hope you are feeling it where you live or that you'll feel it very soon!!!  We were in the 80's Tues.,  then mid 60's yesterday and warmer today.  As I shared yesterday, the only thing blooming (besides my VERY productive tomato plant) are the weeds!  But the butterfly seemed to be enjoying those weeds.  And my neighbor next door has a really pretty batch of daffodils in her front garden.
Today is also International Day of Happiness..did you know that?!!  I didn't til I heard it on the radio yesterday.  So 'don't worry, be happy'!  HA

Backyard visitor

I had a few of these pretties visiting the weeds in my yard today (I guess because they're the only things flowering right now!!).  Loved the blue at the edges of his wings.

And Alycia posted info about a block drive for QOV's through the MQX show..there are 3 blocks to choose from and 2 colorways.  They will be distributed to two QOV organizations (Northeast and Midwest, I believe) so I had to get busy and make ONE!  They're asking peeps to make two but I've cut out enough for four so I'll be covering for one lazy quilter...HA!!

Movin' on..

Now that most of the Dallas Quilt Show photos have been posted, I can begin with my own stuff again! LOL

I'm really liking this the more blocks I make though I'm a long way from having as many blocks as I need.  I want to make it 8X10 making a total of 80 (duh!) and at this point have a big 38!  HA

And then I had to post the few blocks I've gotten done for the color of the month over at So Scrappy.  A paltry four bowtie blocks but four's better than none, right?  Yes it is!!

Here are four of the quilts that were a part of the display of one woman's collection of WWII quilts.  There were a number of quilts on display and several were 'fundraiser' type quilts where people paid a fee to sign a block.  Very interesting display.

and there's more

I just love these life-like floral quilts!!  I wish I could make one but, alas, mine would never be so beautiful!!

WHOA!!  This one was AMAZING.  Made as a recreation in fabric on one of the many Chihuly glass displays that were here at the Dallas Botanical Gardens for a long time about a year ago.  Every single glass display was stunning and this quilt was spectacular!
I love circle quilts..don't ask me why because I don't know.  They just appeal to me and this one was no exception.
Does this one look like record albums to anyone else?  I like it!!

This was made as a quilt along on Lori Holt's blog.  Now she has a book out with all these little cute rows in it (and she always calls everyone 'you cute people'.  HA

Oh MAN, some BEAUTIFUL applique quilts at the show!!  WOW!

This one absolutely MUST have taken forever!
This is one I could possibly think about doing..HA.  SO cute!

I think the card on this one said this was a raffle quilt the gal had won.  I LOVE it!!

Ohh, little doggy faces.  TOO CUTE!
This one was small but fantastic.

More from Dallas

Yet another batch..but really, I wasn't snap happy!  LOL  There were many that I didn't take pictures of.

I'm still getting some people telling me I'm a no-reply blogger but there is nothing else that I know to do and Blogger doesn't make it easy to get help!  I've gone in and changed my email where I need to and some folks have no problem commenting so if you are still having difficulty, I'm sorry.  Wish I knew what else I could do to get this dumb thing fixed once and for all.  If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them and look into it.

Enjoy the show.....

This last one is Betty Lawson's quilt..I know this because she posted in the comments section that it was hers!!  How awesome is that?!  Yay, Betty, WTG!!

OK, this time around I added 10 as I figured we'll NEVER get through all the photos if I don't step it up!

 This one was tiny!
